SLEEPY

Last night Canaan wore a navy blue outfit to bed that says "SLEEPY" across the front of the shirt. Graham said, "That's so funny, because if they put a baby in a crib below that, then it would be like he was making a dream about being sleepy."

Making a dream - what a concept!

Canaan, 8 weeks

-when on his tummy, lifts his head and looks all around
-I've seen him staring at his hand a couple times
-sucks on his hand when lying on his tummy
-out of 0-3 mos clothing and wearing 3-6 and even some 6-12
-holds head steady when upright, though will still sometimes drop it down
-so, so smiley and talkative! His sound repertoire is really growing!
-turns his head when he hears a voice he knows
-getting more of a schedule for naps - one or two short ones right after waking up, a long afternoon one and a short late afternoon/early evening one. Of course he often still falls asleep in the sling, car etc.

Canaan, 7 weeks

It makes me so sad to write "7 weeks". My baby is not really a newborn any more. It's bittersweet, of course - I love watching him grow and learn new things and become more aware, but oh, how I already miss his teensy-tiny newborn self.

-can bring his hand to his mouth and suck on the side of it, but can only control it for a couple seconds before it flings away
-spits up much less often, but still likes to burp after nursing
-infant acne is mostly cleared up
-I can already see new fuzzy brown/black hair growing in!

New Canaan pictures

I can't believe how big Canaan looks in his bouncy already, at only 5 weeks old! He will sometimes fall asleep in there while I take my shower.

Here's what we do most of the day. ;-)

Sportin' his cute new size small Thirsties cover in celery. Cute stuff!

And speaking of CUTE, Canaan's been SO SMILEY the last 2 days!!

-smiled & cooed like crazy while I was on the phone with Mom one day
-usually sits in the vibrating bouncy while I shower, sometimes falls asleep in there
-slept through the night for the first time!
-flew for the first time, to Portland, OR
-turns his head to hear a voice

3/4 kids

Caris: "Is that the baby's face?" LOL I just love these kissable little lips!!

Sweet Caris - actually, she was irritated with me but I thought this picture came out really cute anyway. LOL

You can't tell by the look on his face, but Malachi really does LOVE to hold his baby brother! He asks to hold him several times a day. Canaan obviously loves it too. LOL

My big kids

You can see here how Caris' tooth turned gray - but guess what? It's now back to normal!! Praise the Lord!!

Canaan, 5 weeks

-smiling and cooing, but not a lot yet
-had his first hair trim, just a few stray long hairs left after most of his hair fell out on the top
-speaking of hair, he plays with the hair on the crown of his head while nursing
-seems to be getting a little more particular about where he sleeps, which means he's a bit fussy when we're out and about and he gets tired
-still fits size small diapers, but a few mediums are starting to fit too
-most heard comments: he's so cute! he's so tiny! (!!) look at his tiny little feet!
-usually goes 3 hours between feedings at night, but has gone longer a couple of times
-long, long eyelashes flutter softly as he falls asleep
-he is getting so round and cherubic!
-I carry him tummy-to-tummy in the sling, and he always tucks one or both legs up IN it. It cracks me up!

Canaan today

Canaan may have to enroll in CFA (Ceiling Fans Anonymous). He really cannot get enough of gazing at it.

I admired this hilarious "monkey" outfit on my friend Dawn's baby and she mailed it to me!! Today it was 77ยบ out and the perfect day for him to wear it.

God's Upside-Down Universe

It's true that God's ways are not like ours. I had many days toward the end of my pregnancy that I really worried how well I would be able to tolerate four children. I was so tired and cranky and many times my patience was absolutely worn thin. I kept thinking of how much *more* tired I'd be with a baby in the mix and how much *less* patient this would make me.

God has a funny, special way of doing things, though. My heart hasn't just expanded to include little Canaan, it's expanded to not just tolerate my older kids better but to truly enjoy them more. Sure, I have moments where my patience fizzles and I really just need some quiet - and God provides it. But all in all, having one more baby has just made me love being a Mom even more! Thank you Lord!

Pics of Canaan

Alif pointed out how funny it was when Canaan was sleeping with his hand flat against his face one night while we watched TV. LOL

Canaan, 4 weeks

-when we are nursing in bed, his hand finds its way inside mine - I love how it feels opening and closing in there
-he makes little sighing, high-pitched singing noises as he exhales during nursing
-his hair is falling out, resulting in a nice male-pattern baldness look. LOL
-0-3 outfits still fit, but are starting to look a bit snug. 3-6 outfits are still really big, though.
-he's starting to make much more intentional eye contact, though the visual love of his life is still the ceiling fan in the living room
-went on his first out-of-womb walk around the neighborhood. Really liked it - stared with face upward, soaking in the sun, then fell asleep in the sling
-has 12 white milia spots left on his nose. I actually counted them during an early-morning feeding. ROFL
-first time at church today! So fun showing him off to those who hadn't seen him yet! Alif & I worked in the nursery today so it was the perfect Sunday to head back to church.
-Alif said tonight, "He's really getting big." I responded, "I know. He doesn't look like a newborn any more." :*)
