52 Books in 52 Weeks: Even Now

Why do I let fees happen at the library? Every time we incur fees, we stay away from the library for long periods, and then when the fees are paid off I always marvel at what an amazing resource the library is.

Right now we're all paid off and enjoying our wonderful little library. I especially enjoy requesting books online so that they call and let me know when they're ready, and they are right at the front desk waiting for me!

This time though, the kids were browsing for something interesting so I did the same. I knew I wanted fiction. I checked in the Maeve Binchy area and nothing caught my eye. I went over to Karen Kingsbury next, and there were a few books there that I hadn't read and that weren't the middle of a series. I picked this one that looked cute - Even Now.

Well? It was cute. LOL I don't have a whole lot to say about the book because it wasn't compelling, it wasn't wonderfully written, it wasn't a lot of things - but it was enjoyable to read and a sweet story.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

  1. Always nice to know. I am a library Queen. Before I buy, I go online and search our local libraries. If they have it, I request it. One book, a pioneer cookbook I have heard raves about, I bet I will get, finally, in 6 months; I've waited 2 already. I'm not always that patient. But... my cookbook shelf is stuffed and ready to pop. So, I can wait. As a librarian of sorts, I love the smell of books, the knowledge and sweetness of books, what they teach me, how they help me escape reality and slip into slumber at the end of long days, the free trips around the world, without costing me a dime. Save the libraries!!!! :) Two fun books, kids' books, easy and very nice reads for adults, are Richard Peck's A Year Down Yonder (my fav) and A Long Way From Chicago. Most of his books make me smile. And in the summer???? They have wonderful kids' programs!!! Go to the library!!! :)

  2. And now you have to read Ever After...the sequel to this one! :)

  3. Circle the date on your calendar when the books are due! If you can't make it to the library, you can renew them online. That has saved me a bunch of times.

I like Karen Kingsbury. She is a lot more complex than a lot of Christian fiction writers.

  4. But the cover's nice. I'm a sucker for a nice cover. It's gotta look good on the nightstand, ya know?

  5. I am SO GLAD someone else incurs fees at the library! We racked up so many fees last year I kept the kids out for 6 months! Then we went to just one card...I was trying to use the library as a training in responsibility...not good! So one day I thought, I'll just check on the other cards that were still open and found that my eldest daughter had $84 in FINES! She had taken them to the beach and left them at my friends' house and we forgot about it! YIKES! The library worked with us, but OH MY GOODNESS! The Library should not be the place to go into debt! = ) You made me laugh...thanks!
